all my life’s a circle

My spinning wheels have served me well throughout my first 57 years. The wheels themselves have come and gone, but they have provided…

Social time and confidence building for a shy girl - learning to spin, sheep to shawl contests and 4H fairs and events

Rediscovery of my creative energy as a young full time mom enjoying colors and textures and something for myself all my own

A lulling rhythmic background noise for my children as they read or slept… and, now, the excited anticipation of my new grandbabies sleeping to the same whirring this winter

A constant for a new empty nester reminding me that I would continue to have enjoyment in the next phase of life

Respite for a busy social worker giving me time at the start and end of each day to regroup and find balance

An identity to be proud of as a fiber artist and business owner

Comfort as I cared for my dad in his final days on earth with us and, now, as I contemplate what life will be like without his physical presence

I wonder at each stage yet to come - losses and gains, new memories created and old ones remembered - and am grateful for the reminders from my wheels that I have a drive to create that is energizing even in difficult times, that there is a rhythm to our lives and we can find balance in it, and that the world keeps spinning throughout it all.
